The Club meets on the second Thursday of each month, except August, and meetings are held at The Pavilion, Field Place, The Boulevard, Worthing commencing at 7.30pm. All genres - fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, TV/radio, journalism etc - are covered.
Each month the Club invites a speaker to come and talk about their genre - previous speakers include poets, children's, ghost, fantasy, romantic, crime and comedy writers, a forensic scientist and a senior police officer who talked about a famous local murder case (very popular with our crime writers!). In addition, the Club runs workshops and competitions catering for all tastes. There is also an annual Showcase event where members are invited to read published work to the general public. Much to everyone's delight, the Club's first ever short story and poetry anthology was published in May 2005. The club always offers plenty of advice & help to its members on how to get published and achieve great success.
In fact, every season brings a lot of success to so many of our members. For example, recently, between them, forty-two members produced 53 short stories, 8 novels, 8 novellas, 40 children’s books, 30 poems, 17 articles, 6 plays, 1 article on a BBC website, 1 letter on the Letters Page, 17 mini sagas and 1 TV sketch. In countrywide short story competitions (not Club competitions) there were 6 first prizes, 6 second prizes, 1 highly commended, 3 commended. In poetry competitions, there were 2 First Prizes, 4 Second Prizes, and 1 Commended. Members’ work continues to be widely published not just in the UK but also in USA, Australia, Japan, Korea and Latvia. One member had her 15th book published while another member saw his 17th pantomime on stage.
To date the membership totals over 120 but we are keen to welcome many, many more so why don't you consider joining...? For details on how to become a member write to Heather Reay, 131 Bevendean Crescent, Brighton, BN2 4RE or phone her on 01273 701235. We look forward to welcoming you...
